Artist Statement
My work is about journeys: those that I take and the journey that the artwork has been on in my studio. I’m passionate about three mediums: clay, encaustic monotypes and cold wax-oil painting. The material techniques, textures, colors and structures of each medium dictate the development of my artwork, which while predominately abstract is based on reality. Mark-making allows for new forms and abstractions that may at first appear messy and perhaps complicated, but this process provides for a conversation to surface with ideas and a new narrative. Shapes and lines are born from places and objects, broken down and transformed into something new. Intuition overcomes intention and creates an energy and a voice. Each medium offers me different opportunities for interplay with the elements and to create a story. I invite you to pause a while, to take your own journey through the narratives I create.
