Vivienne Riggio

Vivienne Riggio Art--"Creating an Odyssey of Wonder" I fabricate large scale mythical creatures that tell a story connecting us to another time, another place. I draw from my experience in operatic costume design and use Southwestern embroidery techniques combined w found objects, repurposed textiles and traditional handiwork. My desire is that these mystical sculptures evoke a departure from conventional imagery to an unfamiliar place of wonder. My pieces transcend the cultures we think of as the norm, the ordinary, the customary, and take our imaginations to a place of our own invention. Ultimately, I hope the viewer connects with that other place, a departure from their day-to-day thinking. For some my art takes on a lifelike presence and others just enjoy the craftsmanship and appreciate it solely as a work of art.
