Is the essence I’m working out in a painting useful to others? It's a leap of faith. I am compelled to paint, but serving others is also important to me. And having painted and sold these past 30 years, I’ve received sufficient feedback to understand that art is part of the mystery that connects, heals, inspires and teaches us. The human body, magpies and clouds are my primary inspirations. I am fascinated with the human figure and face and how they transmit our histories, experiences and wisdom. Magpies are strength, beauty and a wild daring awareness. Clouds are hope, friends and reminders that life is bigger than our imagination. I often work with layers of glazes or wax to create textures and depth of tone and field. The layers add an enlivening warmth and a subliminal entry to the unknown.
