John Vavruska

I have photographed nature and the landscape with a large format view camera for more than four decades. From the sheet film negatives, I make finely crafted prints in a traditional darkroom using the gelatin silver printing process. Out in the field, the interplay of fleeting atmospheric conditions with low angle light on the land are a particular attraction to me. My focus is mostly the natural world at all scales from the intimate to the grand landscape and feel most at home with my camera in the wilderness of the American West and in the Nepal Himalaya.
