Surrealist Landscape

Artist Statement

The push and pull, the ever necessary act of digging deeper, to find the strength, grace and the keenness to persevere, how can I talk about these ideas in an abstract form? I begin with the landscape and the idea of the horizon. There is often a sense within my work that an event has just taken place or is about to happen. The wealth of nature that lives within ourselves and the environment is a deep source of inspiration. All of the verve, turmoil, destruction, lightness and life; coexisting in marvelous cacophony. The viewer may experience conflicting sensations, where there is protection, interruption and exclusion all at once. I mean to challenge the possibility of resolution. Instead, I aim to create a kind of tension, a physical dissonance and unease, that is filled with a deep sense of gentleness and peace.
