Artist Statement
Diane G. Kell spent her childhood in Michigan, then Atlanta, Tampa and New Orleans. She left for college in the East and received her bachelor’s in art history from Brown. After a long career in educational research near Boston, she moved to Santa Fe. As a painter, Ms. Kell is inspired by the skies and landforms of New Mexico. “The sky lifts my spirits,” she says, “and now, as an artist, I aim to do the same for others. I imagine them waking to a sunrise feeling hopeful, seeing promise in a rainbow, wandering among clouds, being awed at sunset. If a painting leaves me feeling joy, peace or wonder, I hope others will feel it, too.” This is Ms. Kell's second year on the Santa Fe Studio Tour and her ninth participating in outdoor shows with the Santa Fe Society of Artists.
