Assemblage Figurative

Artist Statement

These are upsetting times. My solace has been to create figures based on ancient figures once used as talismen and gods/goddesses, totems, anything to hold onto as one searched for knowledge, comfort and guidance. It's a past always molding our future. My figures represent hope and light, but also blindness. Many figures are masked—puppets—seemingly unconcerned as the earth self-destructs, as Rome once burned to a fiddler, or so its been said. In our Anthropocene Era, where humans are now responsible for changing the planet other than the geological occurrences from past eras, as we march onward without a thought to preserving our home, Earth, and people, to our possible demise, it seemed time to create new beacons in the hope of seeing us through the darkness, into safety, and enlightenment: so as to save us from ourselves.
