Artist Statement
A fifth-generation New Mexican, Brad Bealmear lived for over 20 years in NYC as an advertising photographer for luxury firms such as Tiffany & Co. before returning to the high desert of Santa Fe. Resettled in the City Different he began to concentrate on photography of nudes (dancers, yogis and local models, some “dressed” by Brad in flower petals, seeds or various other materials, eventually using those images as a basis for his drawing project “Mythical Creatures,” his first visions toward an uncertain future where we all may soon be mythical. This transition marked a new chapter in his artistic journey, one driven by a desire to express his reflections on humanity and its impact on our planet and its ecosystems.
Through his abstract expressionist paintings and abstract figurative drawings, Brad aims to foster a dialogue on our shared responsibility towards the earth, while also celebrating the beauty and resilience of life. He invites viewers to engage with his work and consider the interplay between our existence and the world around us.
