Artist Statement
I began making "Papercuts" at the start of the covid pandemic. Previously, my work was in painting, various forms of printmaking and stained glass. I have always been drawn to media that present technical challenges.
The covid isolation provided unlimited time in my studio without distractions. I was ready to explore a new medium. I had been collecting interesting papers for years and began combining these with bold black silhouettes. I then began experimenting with 3-D shadow boxes which presented a new set of challenges. I continue to be excited by this medium.
Making art has always been the thread through my life, connecting all I do and much of what I wish to preserve from my visual experiences. I feel blessed to be able to do so.
