Impressionism, Abstract

Artist Statement

From the beginning of my self-taught art career, I have been most inspired by nature as a fundamental theme in my work. I have long found solace and inspiration in its simplicity, solitude and color. While spending six months on a sailboat in Alaska during continually inclement weather back in the 80’s, I began to invent brightly colored landscapes to replace the drabness of daily existence. Since that exercise, my work has evolved into bold, whimsical impressionism and abstraction. Although originally a New Englander, my color palette and composition have been greatly influenced by nineteen many years spent in the Southwest. My children's book, "The Hearts That Fell Out of the Sky" is the culmination of my spiritual path, whimsy and color.
